Previously suspended Salford nursery ranked good by Ofsted

Pomegranate turns itself around in less than sixth months

A Salford nursery which had its registration briefly suspended by Ofsted earlier this year has been rated good after a fresh inspection.

In April this year, Pomegranate was branded inadequate and had its registration suspended after Ofsted reported that "catastrophic failings in legal requirements" put children at risk of harm.

The suspension was lifted in May and now Pomegranate is back in Ofsted's good books.

The management team have "implemented significant improvements" since the previous inspection and "worked relentlessly to ensure staff have a robust understanding of their safeguarding responsibilities," the inspection service said.

The management team have also "ensured that there is a culture of vigilance within the nursery, which helps to support children's safety". Children at Pomegranate are "motivated, engaged learners".

Meanwhile there was a positive report for another nursery, Alonim, which is run by the Shaarei Tsedek North London Reform Synagogue. Ranked good overall, it was graded outstanding in two out of four categories.

At Alonim, “staff get to know children exceptionally well and cater for their likes and dislikes.”

Beis Ruchel, an independent primary girls’ independent school in Salford, was graded good in three categories but still received only a “requires improvement” grade overall.

Most girls achieve well and their curriculum is broad, balanced and ambitious. “However, leaders have not ensured that the standard of cleanliness in the early years is acceptable for children in the nursery and reception classes,” Ofsted said.

Beis Aharon, an independent boys’ primary school in Stamford Hill, was judged inadequate. Its secular education is poor, pupils do not learn to read early or well enough and know “hardly anything” about other faiths and cultures, Ofsted said.
