The Board of Deputies has promoted Dawn Waterman to the newly created role of director of education and community engagement and appointed Janine Rose as executive director of its Jewish studies inspection service, Pikuach.
Ms Waterman, its heritage and archive manager, has previously covered the government affairs and education briefs during her six years at the Board.
Board vice-president Gary Mond, who chairs the education and community division, said, “Dawn has tremendous knowledge regarding both Judaism and our education system, and will be able to use this to promote our work in schools and other frameworks around the UK.”
Ms Rose will succeed Jeffrey Leader, who is retiring from Pikuach, early next year.
Pikuach chair Jonathan Miller said: “We had a strong field of applicants for this important position. Janine stood out with her considerable experience as a lead Pikuach Inspector and in the wider world of education.
"She was one of the team who developed the new Pikuach Handbook and its new focus on Jewish spiritual development and will bring this expertise to the role.”
Ms Rose said: “Jeffrey Leader has been an exceptional role model and is a very hard act to follow. I am very much looking forward to this new challenge. With the new Pikuach Handbook and inspections due to resume, this is an exciting time to start.”
She has taught at secondary schools, been involved in teacher training and acted as a consultant, specialising in improving teacher performance, quality of education and leadership and management.
