Kantor King Solomon High School in Redbridge is starting to attract greater support among applicants.

In recent years, many students put the school lower down their preference order in the application process.

But headteacher Hannele Reece said that this year she was “delighted to be able to confirm that only those students who made us their first or second choice have been offered a place.

“This means we can really continue to drive the school forward with students, families, teachers and supporters who are committed to our ethos.”

The United Synagogue school, where roughly a third of the pupils are Jewish, increased from five-form entry to six in 2014.

Some  teachers were already at work before term, running a week-long summer school for 20 year seven and eight KKSHS students last month.

The aim, Mrs Reece said, was “to build the confidence, personal, social and team-building skills of the students, while also providing education in a fun and informal setting.

“The academic focus was on building literacy skills in preparation for GCSE and encouraging students to visit places such as museums which they may not choose to visit themselves.”

Among places visited were the Museum of London in Docklands, the Ragged School Museum and the Olympic Park.
