Outraged JFS pupils have complained over the removal of external doors to boys’ and girls’ toilets at the school.
They told the JC they arrived on Monday for the start of the summer term to find the doors had been taken away but were given no explanation for the measure.
Although doors to inside cubicles remain, they claim the boys’ urinals are visible outside through reflections in mirrors.
“I don’t understand the reason,” said one girl. “It’s an invasion of privacy. You can see inside if you walk past. There’s no door on the toilets in the lunch hall, which I feel is unhygienic. I’m not happy.”
One boy said it was “disgusting and really offputting”.
Another pupil said: “There are doors on the toilets for visitors and teachers. But if we used them, we would get a day of internal exclusion [form of detention].”
Headteacher Rachel Fink: "We have undertaken some renovations over the Pesach break in order to improve the cleanliness and safety of facilities for students.
"Some of these changes are in line with those implemented by other schools to enhance the environment for all. It goes without saying that student privacy has not been impacted upon as a result of these changes."
According to student sources, teachers have said that the doors were removed to stop pupils vaping in the toilets.
