The UK pupils wanted to show their solidarity to Israel and the hostages
March 14, 2025 08:54Immanuel College has hosted 130 Israeli pupils for a day of collaboration, learning and solidarity.
The aim of welcoming the students from King Solomon School in Ramat Hasharon was to strengthen Jewish identity and show the school’s sense of unity with the Israeli people, particularly those still held captive in Gaza, said the school’s leaders.
The students were welcomed by Rabbi Yoni Golker, Immanuel’s deputy headteacher, who introduced the programme and set the tone for the visit before an emotional rendition of Acheinu by Immanuel pupil Jacob Tapnack and Mishebeirach, a prayer for the wellbeing of those in need, recited by head boy Eliav Stafler.
Students then took part in an interactive session on Jewish identity in Israel and the diaspora.
Dan Endlar, headmaster at Immanuel School, said: “It was an honour and privilege to be able to host King Solomon School for an event of such meaning at a time, where our unity and solidarity is more important than ever.
"We are proud to foster such deep connections between our students and look forward to more opportunities to work with each other and support our communities in the future.”
A highlight of the day was the moving formation of a physical Israeli flag, with Immanuel College students forming the outer lines, while King Solomon students created the Magen David in the centre.
The group also released 59 yellow balloons in solidarity with the hostages still held in Gaza and three orange balloons in memory of the Bibas family.
Later, the students took part in sports activities and a mini chess tournament.
Rabbi Cobi Ebrahimoff, executive headteacher of the King Solomon School, said: “It was beautiful to see students from Israel and the UK learning, playing and sharing memorable experiences. May this be the beginning of an exciting partnership between the two schools.”
