Clore Shalom, the pluralist primary in Shenley, Hertfordshire, has opened its revamped library and playground..
Along with new flooring, bookshelves and furniture, the library has been replenished with a thousand new books plus a new computer system to check books in and out. It has been named the David and Jane Rappaport Library after its Devonshire-based benefactor and his late wife.
New equipment installed in the playground includes a climbing wall, target goals for soccer and a giant play house, thanks to a grant from the Oxford and St George’s Youth Trust.
The school’s headteacher, Karen Cohen, said without the donors’ support “it would not have been possible to finance these improvements, that between them cost tens of thousands of pounds.
“The children have been really excited to see the new library and use it to take books home. This enthusiasm for reading is an essential part of their educational development, as is the ability for them to let off steam in imaginative ways in the playground.”
