An exhibition of artwork by children from Jewish schools across the diaspora to celebrate Israel’s 75th anniversary opened at the JW3 Centre in London on Sunday.
On display for three weeks, it will showcase the creativity of children from the UK, Europe and the USA, inspired by a programme of study of objects from Israeli museums and heritage sites.
It was devised by Nic Abery, the primary schools consultant for PaJeS, and follows a similar programme she launched five years ago for Israel’s 70th anniversary.
“I want students to build a deep and meaningful connection to the cultural, artistic and historical diversity of Israel,” Ms Abery said. “This project has given them a chance to engage with the rich diversity of our shared peoplehood, language and heritage.
“I really hope many families and schools will visit the exhibitions and celebrate the remarkable artistic and creative achievements of our teachers and students.”
Rabbi David Meyer, chief executive of PaJeS, said, “The Israel75 project is a wonderful initiative that brings to life the rich history of Israel, the relevance it has to our community and the significance of Israel’s independence 70 years ago. “
A virtual reality museum space will enable European schools to view the works, which will also go on display at one of the Israeli museums later in summer.
