Leeds Maccabi 1st 6
Republica International 4
Dave Woolman continued his red-hot goalscoring streak after firing Leeds Maccabi 1st to victory over Republica International.
The in-form striker grabbed another hat-trick as Ian Selwyn’s men bounced back from last weekend’s defeat by New Unicorn FC in some style.
Leeds scored four times in the opening 20 minutes before rain, sleet and snow caused all sorts of problems for the home side.
Rob Selwyn rounded off a stunning team move to open the scoring, before Woolman added two in quick succession.
Dan Davidson, making his debut for the first team, opened his account by making it 4-0 before the visitors pulled a goal back just before half-time.
That strike gave Republica a real lift and the visitors fought back to 4-3 after scoring two quickfire goals.
With Leeds’ advantage reduced to just a single goal, Woolman produced a moment of magic by unleashing a scorching drive into the top corner.
Republica refused to bow, however, and they were rewarded with a fourth thanks to an exquisite finish.
But any hopes of a Republica comeback were killed off for good with 12 minutes remaining when Jonny Goldstone fired home his side’s sixth and final goal.
“The game descended into a farce when the weather deteriorated but we were always in control,” said Leeds boss Ian Selwyn.
“We had three 16-year-olds out there in Dan Davidson, Marcus Shaffner and Rafi Kaye and I thought they all did really well.
“It’s a good win and with lots of games still to go, it means we’re still in there with a chance.”
