Philanthropic daredevils have launched a month of fundraising for international aid charity Tzedek.

Fourteen people went bungee jumping at Windsor Park on Sunday as part of Tzedek's Dare Yourself campaign.

One of the organisers, Charlotte Flowers, went through "a stage of fear" before her jump.

"It's something that I've always wanted to do but I wouldn't have done it if it was not for a charity." Other stunts completed or are in the works include a bid to eat on £1-a-day, a pledge not to smile for 24 hours, a sponsored walk covering London's Tube map and a challenge to cross 13 bridges in 13 miles.

Tzedek hopes to raise at least £10,000 from the marathon month to support a project helping girls in West Bengal to gain access to education.

It was Hannah Gaventa who experienced life below the poverty line with her £1-a-day meal challenge, raising nearly £1,000 in five days.

It had been "pretty tough on the body" as she had subsisted mainly on carbohydrates. After a diet featuring Weetabix without milk, soup and toast, she was glad to finish the task in time for Friday night dinner.

"It has been an eye-opening experience and I can't imagine having to count the pennies every day. And this dare has just included food, not travel costs, rent, other bills, toiletries and luxuries."
