Title winners Yallatasary scent glory in the cup

Yallatasary were crowned Division One champions on Sunday morning – without kicking a ball – and celebrated by beating Brook Farm Rovers 2-0 to book their place into the semi-finals of the Cyril Anekstein Cup.

Winning the title by virtue of Millbrook Park Calcio only drawing 1-1 against HMH B, a 20-yard rocket of a strike from Freddie Land, along with David Levine’s goal saw them move to within 180 minutes of more silverware. Manager Buddy Smith said: “Overall a top performance and lovely to get a clean sheet. With confirmation of our league win too, I take so much pride in the boys and what they’ve achieved so far. To win the League in January is a big statement and says a lot about the club. We’re now excited for the rest of the season in the remaining cup competitions we’re in, a semi-final in this trophy and two more quarter-finals to look forward too.”

The other cup tie of the day saw London Lions U18 continue their giant-killing exploits as goals from Max Teacher and Henry Seligman saw them beat Sukkotingham Forest 2-0. Manager Lee Glassar said: “We’ve not played for six weeks, so it was to be expected that we’d be a little off our game and natural rhythm. That said, I’m delighted for the boys, they worked hard against a very organised, free-scoring, side, but overall the better team won”.

HMH A moved up into second spot in the Premier Division thanks to a 6-1 win over Real Madreidel. Individual performance of the day went to Zacki Doumou, who having seen his side go 3-0 down against Oakwood, scored four times to seal a 4-3 win for London Athletico. Manager Jess Phillips said: “It was a chaotic game!”.

In Division One, not only did HMH B’s 1-1 draw against Millbrook Park Calcio seal the title for Yallatasary, it also relegated Hampstead Ducks and Brook Farm Rovers in the process. Sami Mindel netted HMH’s equaliser in the last 15 minutes. A hat-trick from Jordan Bayer Goldman steered Mill Hill Dons to a 3-1 win at Redbridge Jewish Care.

HMH Camden moved up into second spot in Division Two to keep alive their, albeit slim mathematical title chances alive, as goals from Louis Couque, Joe Franklin and Elisha Simonetti saw them beat Rapid Viennas 3-1. Manager Joe Levi said: “The whole team were amazing from start to finish, I’m really proud of them.”

Bocher Juniors came away from Mill Hill Minyan with a 2-1 win, thanks to goals from David Amor and Solly Levy – the latter ensuring they’ve scored from corners in six consecutive games. Manager Joel Ucko said: “The boys showed immense character to come from behind, dig in, and pick up three valuable points.” Alexander Spencer-Hope scored for Minyan. Beitar Bushey and 40 Year Wanderers played out a 0-0 draw.

In the Maccabi Masters League, Maccabi London Lions extended their lead at the top of Division One as goals from Matty Kleinman, Gideon Barnett, Darren Dryer and Adam Kaye saw them beat Brady 4-0. In Division Two, two goals from Martin Seifert and Dan Hodes helped EHRS to a 6-0 win over Hendon Harriers. Mark Kingston and Gary Good scored their others.
