After nearly 20 years in Leeds, Rabbi Jason and Rebbetzin Elise Kleiman are to return to London after being chosen as the new rabbinic couple for Pinner United Synagogue.
Rabbi Kleiman, 54, and Rebbetzin Kleiman, 55, previously served at Catford and Bromley and Clayhall Synagogues before moving to the Beth Hamidrash Hagadol Synagogue.
Pinner congregants voted overwhelmingly to appoint them on Sunday following a visit over Shabbat.
In a statement, the Kleimans said, "After nineteen and a half years in Leeds at the Beth Hamidrash Hagadol Synagogue for which we have a very deep affinity, a move to a new community would have been tremendously daunting were it not for the infectiously warm and welcoming reception we experienced when visiting Pinner shul.”
They said they “embrace the opportunity to lead such a vibrant congregation, alongside so many inspirational members who actively contribute to all aspects of shul life. Building on the principles of “‘inspire, care, connect’ articulated by our predecessors Rabbi and Rebbetzen Kurzer, we are passionate about reaching out to the entire Pinner Jewish community and look forward to enhancing each person's connection to their faith and the state of Israel.”
Pinner chair Lisa Olins said she was “delighted that the Pinner community voted overwhelmingly in favour” of the couple. “I am very excited to welcome the Kleimans to Pinner in early 2025 and look forward to working with them for the enhancement of our wonderful community.”
A music lover who once won a competition for his knowledge of the Beatles, Rabbi Kleiman is a graduate of Jews’ College. He is the chaplain and rabbinic governor of the Leeds Jewish Free School and the Brodetsky Primary School.
Hull-born Rebbetzin Kleiman, a graduate in business and finance, runs the community cheder for the Leeds Jewish Education Authority and is a lover of country walks.
