18-year-old Ella Greenwood is currently undergoing treatment
March 27, 2025 14:02A fundraising campaign has been launched to support an 18-year-old music student, who has been diagnosed with leukaemia.
Ella Greenwood, 18, from north London, was living life to the fullest – balancing her studies with socialising with friends – until her sudden diagnosis turned her world upside down.
Initial symptoms were seemingly innocuous, with Ella, a student at Guildford’s Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM), experiencing pain in her collarbone.
After a series of tests, including CT scans and MRIs, doctors discovered swollen lymph nodes, which led to further investigations. The Royal Marsden Hospital in London confirmed a diagnosis of leukaemia at the beginning of March.
As part of her treatment, Ella is having regular bone marrow biopsies and lumber punctures, where chemotherapy is injected into her spine to prevent the leukaemia spreading to her brain.
She is also having aggressive chemotherapy every week through IVs and injections, as well as regular blood and platelet transfusions.
This will continue until September, followed by oral chemotherapy for the next two years.
Ella's compromised immune system makes public transport too dangerous, and she requires taxis to travel safely to and from her medical appointments. The cost of these journeys, however, is “an expense that is simply unaffordable for our family”, her brother Harry wrote on the fundraising page.
Money raised will help cover transportation costs and any other expenses to ensure Ella is as comfortable as possible during her treatment, without additional financial worry.
Harry wrote: "Our world was turned upside down when Ella was diagnosed with leukaemia….This journey will be unimaginably tough, bringing countless challenges along the way.
“We need your help...Any support, no matter how big or small, would mean the world to us. Your generosity will help ensure that Ella can focus on the most important fight of her life – beating leukaemia.”
