Migdal Emunah, the only Jewish UK-wide charity supporting survivors of sexual abuse, has secured lottery funding, following an “unprecidented increase in demand” for its services.
Erica Marks, CEO of Migdal Enumah, said she was “delighted” to have received a grant from The National Lottery. “This has been awarded to support our work with clients who have experienced child sexual abuse, to reduce the harm they have experienced and to assist them in their journey to recovery and healing.” she said.
Migdal Emunah, founded in 2013, works with children, women and men. The charity provides practical and emotional support for Jewish survivors of sexual abuse. It also works to raise awareness of sexual abuse and challenge the myths and taboos surrounding abuse.
With these extra funds, Migdal Emunah will be able to broaden its scope. “This grant will mean we can expand our reach across the Jewish community to ensure any child or adult can benefit from our free, confidential, services,” said Marks.
The charity also managed to quadruple its initial target to cover IEMT (integral eye movement therapy) for vulnerable and traumatised clients through other fundraising efforts.
Marks and her son Benjy participated in the Maccabi Community Fun run on behalf of the charity.
Marks said: “Disaster almost struck on the day as Benjy’s wheelchair was badly damaged. However, determined to complete the race and reach our goal, we managed to continue and cross the finish line.”
Their efforts raised over £2,000 to go towards the pioneering treatment.
