Birthday boy Stuart sparkles in the snow

The wintry conditions couldn’t prevent the Maccabi Strollers Walking Football Club from taking part in its weekly game in Stanmore on Sunday morning.

The Yellow team defied the snowy conditions to play out an enthralling 4-4 draw against the Blues, with club president and co-chair Stuart Lustigman presented with a gift to commemorate his 80th birthday.

Even with the melting snow sticking to the ball, the dedication of the players was epitomised by club president Stuart Lustigman celebrating his 80th birthday and scoring early for the Yellow team as they played out a thrilling 4-4 draw against the Blues.

The conditions did though encourage accurate passing and some excellent goals, which came from a Tony Platman hat-trick for the Yellows and two goals from Bruce Brent on his Blues debut. With a player less and trailing 4-2 going into the latter stages of the game, the Blues salvaged a point through Peter Gordon’s strike and a last-gasp penalty by Gary Briggs.
