A period of difficulty was referred to at Donisthorpe Hall care home's annual barbecue on Sunday.
Andrew Brown, the Leeds home's chairman of trustees, told the 100 guests that this year's event was "different from all other years," and referred to recent disparaging reports from the Care Quality Commission.
"We are going through a difficult period. It hasn't been easy, in fact it has been a huge strain on everybody involved."
Mr Brown assured supporters that Donisthorpe had "the determination" to overcome the hurdles ahead.
He added that the trustees were "extremely impressed" with new management team Bam Healthcare, describing them as "an impressive bunch" and praising the way they have instigated changes. "They have only been here 10 weeks and already we can see some real differences."
Mr Brown had praise too for the home's staff and volunteers who have shown "genuine love and concern" during the difficult period. He also thanked 90-year-old Regina Waldman who has organised every barbecue since its inauguration 27 years ago.
