£38m plan approved

v Barnet Council has approved the 38 million redevelopment of Hammerson House in north London, on which building work is expected to start next year.

The project will significantly increase the home’s capacity to 116, meeting care needs from residential to advanced dementia. Residents’ rooms will be located in six distinct households with associated dining and social areas.

There will also be a hair salon, shop, café, dedicated therapy suite and a large events hall. “We are delighted we can now move forward with our plans,” said Melvin Lawson, the Nightingale Hammerson chairman.

“Our priority is to continue the long tradition of providing an exemplary standard of care for the Jewish community.”

Hammerson House will be closed during building work. Many residents will transfer to its sister property, Nightingale in Clapham, to live in a refurbished unit that will open in spring.
