Norwood and Ravenswood service users triumphed at the Special Olympics GB in Bath, achieving a 19-medal haul.

The 16 men and one woman ranged in age from 25 to 60 and participated in events from the long jump to the 400m sprint. Family and friends turned out to support them.

Jackie Andresier, 49, was a gold medallist in the 50m sprint. “Although I was in a tough race, I was really pleased to win,” she said. “I had an amazing time and I also enjoyed making lots of new friends.”

Nigel Trumper, the athletics coach and sports co-ordinator at Ravenswood, said he was proud of the team, which made it to the Special Olympics after taking part in the regional qualifiers.

“For all our athletes, this was the culmination of four years’ hard training and competition at regional level.

“Everyone upheld the Olympic spirit and the results achieved were a well-deserved reflection on their dedication and sportsmanship.”
In total, the team took home three gold, 10 silver and six bronze medals from the five-day competition.
