London schoolgirl Aimee Nathan is doing her bit to change the world -— in fact, you may have seen her do so. Miss Nathan, 18, is campaigning to persuade people to use their own mugs when they get a take-away coffee from a café, rather than using a disposable cup.
This week, her campaign was shown on Channel 4 as part of a series called Battlefront. The five-part series focuses on the endeavours of 20 teenagers as they campaign on issues they are passionate about. Miss Nathan is now making a public plea to promote her activities. She tells People: “We take our environment for granted and waste far too much, especially coffee cups. I hope we can show that doing a little thing can make a big difference.”
Miss Nathan’s biggest challenge during the show is when she organises her first big publicity stunt — a flash mob outside a coffee chain to encourage people to bring their own mugs. She also manages to get endorsement from model Jodie Marsh.
Miss Nathan is studying for her A-levels at North London Collegiate School. She hopes the show will help spread awareness of the campaign.
Home is in Stanmore, Middlesex. She is a member of Belsize Square Synagogue.
