Hanna ready for London challenge

Hanna Knyazyeva-Minenko is the top medal hope of the six athletes representing Israel in the World Athletic Championships.

The triple jumper Minenko will be hoping to go one better than the silver medal she won two years ago in Beijing with a leap of 14.49m, one year after emigrating to Israel from Ukraine.

She last appeared at the London Stadium at the 2012 Olympics when she suffered the disappointment of a fourth place finish with a jump of 14.56m when representing Ukraine. She finished fifth at the Rio Olympics last year with an effort of 14.68m.

Minenko, 27, has been plagued by injury since Brazil. She underwent surgery on her foot in February and insists she is fully recovered.
But she is making no promises about her medal prospects.

“The Olympics seem a long time ago but now I’m back and fit and I feel great to have qualified for London.”

The other members of Israel’s squad are javelin thrower Margarita Dorozhon, also an immigrant from Ukraine, and four marathon runners – Marhu Teferi, Lona Chamtai, Maor Tiyuri and Garma Amra.
