Lost in lace

articlemain

It all began with several celebrities being papped in the latest must-have designer label, Self-Portrait. Though the fuss of a chunky crochet and flash of flesh has died down, it's left a host of high-street stores tapping into the sexy yet elegant way to dress for occasions.

It's an edgier version on lace, with the same softness yet a spruced-up look that appeals to a younger 20/30-something that may not otherwise consider wearing lace. With its often bold colours, standout designs and body-con fit, it's no surprise it's become a popular look that seems to be growing rapidly, especially on the high street.

Though I'm not one to turn up my nose at a winning design, I would like to point out that like anything, if done too much, the trend loses its excitement and fashion appeal. That said, mesh seems to turn heads (with both women and men) and keeps partywear contemporary and suitably modest without feeling too covered up.

With wedding season soon upon us, the airy fabric and unique designs couldn't be more perfect. Wear it while it's hot, in both senses of the word, before everyone on the block is in the same uniform and you're once again screaming out for SOS occasionwear.
