A man and woman have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect after a seven-year-old girl died at an address in north-east London.

Jewish volunteer medical organisation Hatzola and the London Ambulance Service called police to the address on Friday January 27.

A 49-year-old man and 50-year-old woman were subsequently taken into custody before being released on bail until late April, the Metropolitan police confirmed to the JC.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the girl’s death are ongoing.

A police memo says arrests were necessary due to the seriousness of the "tragic incident" and needs of the investigation.

There is currently no coroner's report indicating how the death occurred.

The police did not confirm which street the death took place in, but said it was located in N16, the postcode covering Stoke Newington, Stamford Hill, Shacklewell, Dalston, and Newington Green.
