YOUR WEEKEND REVIEW STARTS HERE:

DIVISION TWO

FAIRLOP 2 HERTSWOOD VALE 1

Daniel Rosen was amongst the scorers as Fairlop, my tips for the title, got off the mark after a hard-fought win over Hertswood Vale.

An own goal accounted for Fairlop's other strike, with Ollie Brill registering for Hertswood.

Jubilant Fairlop boss Aaron Dias told JC Sport: "We played well in parts but overall was quite a poor footballing performance from us and made hard work of the victory. However, other than a superb save from Jake Sanders late on the win was never really in doubt."

Hertswood player-manager Jacob Emanuel told JC Sport: "Fairlop look a very solid side indeed with lots of technical footballers, but I'm unsure if they're the hardest team we'll face in the league this season - we hold our heads up high off the back of a solid display and look forward to inviting Real Hendon to the Fortress next weekend. In the meantime, we find ourselves disappointed heading back to north London."

CATFORD & BROMLEY MACCABI 3 STRAW HAT PIRATES 2

Alex Jacobs, Mitch Green and Jamie Sinai fired Catford & Bromley to an opening day win over new boys Straw Hat Pirates.

SEE VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

The Cats found themselves 0-2 down against an Ethan Mooney-inspired Pirates team. The visitors' semi-pro star man was in mesmerising form, scoring one and setting up another for Aron Gale.

Jacobs started the comeback with a superbly struck half-volley from the edge of the box before Green popped up with an 89th minute equaliser. And goal-poacher Sinai was in hand to convert a stoppage time penalty to complete the comeback.

Pirates boss Elliot Cukier told JC Sport: "'It is a great shame to lose like that in the last five minutes, so close to end. We played some outstanding football in the first half, despite losing our captain after five minutes. We had a great showing today against an established side in the league, and proved that we can make serious waves in this league and are here to stay."
